About Me
I started building models in my early twenties aboard a supply boat in the Gulf of Mexico. My tools were limited to what I could carry in my sea bag. I used whatever I could find in dumpsters, on docks, trim off the boat, copper from the engine room and local hardware stores. My first models wer sailboats built from pictures in "Wooden Boat".
Then I got my first job building two oil rig models called "Jackups" for a law firm in New Orleans. In 1987 my life changed and she is now eighteen years old. Only one model was started. The "Junk". In 2003 I went back in the USMM aboard a tug pushing fuel. The models started again. And here they are. And I know this is what is coming next. I hope you enjoy my models.
All my models are built in my wood shop at home in Melrose, Florida. Each hull is planked over frames. Some hulls may be painted and all other colors are natural wood; Bocote, Cocobolo, Ebony, Wenge, Yellow Heart, Rosewood, Lacewood, Paduk, Purple Heart, Cypress and Mahogany. Finishes include varnish, lacquer and oil.
Not all my boats have names because at times they do not exist. I make my boats from pictures that I like or out of my head. I use no plans.
So far, just a pencil and wood strips. Everything is done by eye.
Feel free to email me with an offer on any of my models.
